Meet Mary Ann

Mary Ann Cleary, LCSW, CADC

Hi! I’m Mary Ann, a licensed clinical social worker and certified alcohol and other drug counselor committed to helping ambitious adults heal from the lasting impacts of growing up in a dysfunctional family and finally live a life of their choosing.

If you’re here, your life probably looks pretty good on paper; you’ve managed impressive feats in your professional life, but you probably don’t think so.

You don’t believe anything you do is all that extraordinary and quietly hope that your next big achievement will finally be the one that makes you feel worthy of respect and admiration – the one that makes you truly special.

You notice similar patterns creeping into your dating life too, often attracting romantic partners who are elusive, inconsistent, and keep you at arm’s length. You hope that if you demonstrate how much you care without being “too much” they’ll recognize your worth and choose to commit to you. Alternatively, you may attract partners who show genuine interest in you but find yourself sabotaging the relationship by overworking, acting out, or failing to make them a priority in order to avoid getting too close.

In our work together, we’ll discover where this relentless need to overperform and hustle for your worth comes from so that you can finally break free of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and self-sabotage. As we unpack all that you have endured up to this point, you’ll discover a truly life-changing truth: there’s nothing you need to prove – you are enough right now.

Fun Facts

I am a human being first and a therapist second.

When I’m not working you can usually find me browsing a thrift store, reading a memoir, watching a documentary or horror film, journaling (especially if I’ve had a really good or really bad day), writing poetry, listening to music (particularly Florence + The Machine or AURORA), taking a long walk, or hanging at home with my husband, son, and two cats.
